Opening Remarks by Nick Wakeman, Editor-in-Chief, Washington Technology.

Bakari Dale, director of business enterprise data analytics in the Army Office of Business Transformation, talked about the Army’s approach to transformation and why data is a critical driver of how the Army is modernizing its business. One of his responsibilities is the Army’s Deep Green Data Science Competition, where the Army challenges teams to use data to address complex problems. Dale shared lessons from these competitions and how they have broader application across the Army and how contractors can get involved.

The Army Futures Command is a driver of innovation for the Army and small business have a critical role to play. Gayna C. Malcolm-Packnett, interim associate director of small business programs at the command, shared the initiatives her office has and how small businesses can get involved. She provided a breakdown of where small businesses can find opportunities, including at the priorities of the Army Futures Command and how small businesses can connect with the command.

Susanne Hake, Senior Vice President of Palantir shared how that company’s approach to the market has resonated with the Army and driven the company’s success. Palantir’s business model relies on a more commercial like approach to the delivering solutions to the government. She described that model and how other contractors can adopt what has worked for Palantir.
